Identity document security assessment
Secure Identity Alliance (SIA) is an NGO committed to the fight for universal and secure digital identity. In this context, she collaborated with our agency, Katan, to develop an innovative tool to improve the security of government identity documents around the world. This tool, called eSEC, allows governments to test and assess the security of their identity documents by analyzing various aspects related to counterfeiting, identity theft, and other forms of fraud.
Project Objectives
The main objective of the eSEC project was to create an intuitive and robust web application that allowed governments to:
- Test the security of identity documents on various criteria such as counterfeiting, alteration, recycling, theft, and automatic border control.
- Evaluate the reliability of documents by generating a safety score based on complex calculation methods.
- Identify potential weaknesses documents and propose improvements to strengthen their security.
Technological development
To achieve these ambitious goals, we have opted for popular, modern and efficient technologies in order to guarantee the performance, reliability and security of the tool: React.js, Next.js, Node.js, gRPC, PostgreSQL
Key Features
The eSec tool is distinguished by several key features:
- Detailed capture of the characteristics of the documents : Users can fill in all the manufacturing steps, the materials used, the inks, the hologram techniques, the transparent areas, etc.
- Security calculation and evaluation : Thanks to sophisticated algorithms, the tool calculates a global and specific security score for each criterion.
- Reports and recommendations : eSEC generates detailed reports that highlight document weaknesses and suggest possible improvements.
Collaboration and Challenges
The development of eSEC required close collaboration with the Secure Identity Alliance to ensure that the tool met their needs exactly. Among the challenges encountered, we had to:
- Develop sophisticated calculation algorithms to assess document security accurately and reliably.
- Ensure an intuitive and fun user interface despite the complexity of the functionalities.
- Integrate secure communication technologies to guarantee the integrity of the data exchanged between the frontend and the backend.
Benefits and Impact
Thanks to eSEC, Secure Identity Alliance now has a powerful tool to help governments around the world improve the security of their identity documents. The benefits are numerous:
- Improved document security : Governments can identify and correct weaknesses in their identity documents.
- Fraud reduction : An accurate assessment and targeted recommendations reduce the risks of counterfeiting and identity theft.
- Facilitation of border controls : More secure documents simplify and speed up automatic border controls.
Conclusion
The eSEC project for Secure Identity Alliance is an emblematic example of our ability to create tailor-made, innovative and robust tools that meet the specific needs of our customers. This project not only made it possible to develop an advanced technological solution, but also to contribute to a noble cause: the security of digital identities on a global scale. Our technical expertise, combined with close collaboration with SIA, was essential in overcoming challenges and delivering a product of exceptional quality.
