Nuclear Serious Game
Katan is proud to present SafetyWay, a Serious Game developed for Nuvia, the nuclear subsidiary of the Vinci group. This innovative project, designed with Unity, aims to make nuclear power plant employees aware of safety rules through a fun and interactive experience.
Project Objectives
The main objective of SafetyWay was to create an engaging and educational application to help Nuvia employees better understand and enforce safety regulations at nuclear power plants. The Serious Game had to not only educate but also test the knowledge of employees interactively, by reinforcing the good behaviors and reflexes necessary to ensure their safety.
Specific goals included:
- Create an immersive environment in 2D, isometric and 2D to facilitate learning.
- Develop varied mini-games and an interactive adventure to captivate users.
- Ensure that the application is intuitive and accessible for all employees, regardless of their level of familiarity with video games.
Challenges Encountered
The development of SafetyWay presented several challenges that our team had to overcome:
1. Complexity of Security Rules : Nuclear safety regulations are extremely detailed and strict. It was essential to integrate them precisely while making them understandable and memorable.
2. User engagement : Maintaining user interest throughout the application, especially for those who are not familiar with video games, required thoughtful design of the mini-games and the adventure.
3. Interactivity and Immersion : Ensure a smooth and immersive user experience with a 2D, isometric and 2D interface, while managing the complex interactions required for mini-games.
Solutions provided
To meet these challenges, our team has implemented several strategies:
1. Expanded Collaboration : We worked closely with Nuvia security experts to ensure that all security policies were properly integrated and presented in a fun way.
2. User Centered Design : By adopting a user-centered design approach, we created intuitive interfaces and smooth user journeys. The mini-games have been carefully designed to be instructive and entertaining.
3. Unity technology : Using Unity made it possible to create high-quality 2D isometric and 2D graphics, ensuring an immersive experience. Unity's flexibility has also made it easy to integrate various game mechanics and complex interactions.
Results and Impact
SafetyWay has been well received by Nuvia employees, with high engagement rates and positive feedback on improving the understanding of safety regulations. Employees found the app not only educational but also entertaining, which reinforced their learning and application of safety best practices on a daily basis.
Key findings include:
- Improvement of knowledge : Post-training evaluations have shown a significant increase in employee knowledge about safety regulations.
- Reinforcement of Good Practices : Mini-games and adventure scenarios helped anchor critical safety behaviors.
- Increased engagement : The interactive and fun format has maintained the interest of users, ensuring active and continuous participation.
Conclusion
SafetyWay is a perfect example of our ability to transform complex needs into innovative and effective solutions. This project shows how Serious Games can be used to improve safety training in critical environments such as nuclear power plants. We are honored to have collaborated with Nuvia to contribute to the safety of their employees and their work environment.
